Hartalika Teej Vrat Katha
The vrat katha relates to the marriage of Goddess Parvati and Lord Shiva. Once, King Himavan searched for a good groom for Parvati. Sage Narada suggested Lord Vishnu’s proposal. When Parvati learned this, she felt extremely distressed as she wished to marry Lord Shiva. One of her friends took her to a dense forest, where she created a shivling from sand and began meditating on Lord Shiva, remaining without food or water.
Pleased with her intense devotion, Lord Shiva appeared before her and granted her the desired blessing. When her father learned about it, he solemnly married Parvati to Shiva according to the rituals. The day Shiva appeared before Parvati was the Tritiya Tithi of Bhadrapada. On that day, Shiva declared that any woman who observes this fast and worships on this date will gain eternal marital bliss.
Difference Between Hariyali Teej and Hartalika Teej
People celebrate the Teej of Sawan as Hariyali Teej, while they celebrate the Teej of Bhadrapada as Hartalika Teej. On Hariyali Teej, women dress up and observe a fast, but Hartalika Teej is a strict fast in which women remain without food and water. Both fasts follow similar basic rules. Hariyali Teej is more popular in Rajasthan, while Hartalika Teej is famous in Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, and other states.
