Importance of Karwa Chauth Muhurat
In Hindu tradition, people always consider an auspicious time before performing any sacred ritual, and this is called muhurat. On Karwa Chauth, women worship Chauth Mata (Maa Parvati) along with Lord Shiva, Kartikeya, and Lord Ganesha during the puja. Performing this puja during the right muhurat ensures the fulfillment of the fast’s results.
Although evening time after sunset is considered the best for worship, women who cannot perform the puja at that time may complete it during the day. However, it is essential to keep the sacred lamp (diya) lit continuously until Chandrapuja (moon worship).
Karwa Chauth Puja Vidhi (Worship Method)
The fast begins at sunrise with a vow (sankalp). On this day, women wake up early and take the vow by chanting the following mantra:
Karwa Chauth Vrat Sankalp Mantra
“Mum sukhasaubhagya putrapoutradisu sthir shri praptaye karaka chaturthi vratmaham karishye.”
After taking the vow, women decide their own fasting rules. Traditionally, Karwa Chauth is observed as a nirjala vrat (without food and water). According to their capacity, women may follow the fast strictly or with modifications.
Throughout the day, women maintain the fast with joy and positivity. In the evening, they worship Lord Shiva, Maa Parvati, Lord Kartikeya, and Lord Ganesha with full devotion. After seeing the moon, women offer arghya (water) to the moon and then break their fast with water and food.
