Who is Goddess Maa Annapurna

Goddess Annapurna is considered a form of Goddess Durga and Parvati. She is the goddess of food and prosperity. She has a deep connection with Kashi Vishwanath. A magnificent temple in Kashi allows devotees to have her darshan, fulfilling their wishes. Goddess Annapurna, in the form of Parvati, married Lord Shiva.

Maa Annapurna Temple, Kashi

This temple of Goddess Maa Annapurna is the only one in the country constructed in the shape of Shri Yantra. The goddess seated on the Shri Yantra blesses her devotees. When the corners of the temple align, Shri Yantra forms naturally.

This is why the place is considered self-manifested. Although there are many Annapurna temples in India, the one in Kashi holds unique importance. According to scriptures, Lord Shiva himself asked for alms of food from Goddess Annapurna. Devotees come from all over the country to see Lord Shiva’s silver idol offering alms to the golden form of the goddess. It is believed that treasures from the goddess’s court keep the food stores of devotees’ homes always full. The Mahant stated that the treasures and prasadam from the Shri Yantra-shaped temple hold special significance. That is why devotees line up 24 hours in advance to receive the goddess’s treasures and prasadam. In a year, devotees can see the goddess’s golden form only on four days.
