Maa Siddhidatri – The Divine Bestower of All Siddhis

Navratri’s ninth day is dedicated to the worship of Maa Siddhidatri. As her name suggests, she is believed to grant her devotees every kind of siddhi (spiritual power). All energies and siddhis lie under her command. According to the Markandeya Purana, worshipping her blesses devotees with eight siddhis – Anima, Mahima, Garima, Laghima, Prapti, Prakamya, Ishitva, and Vashitva. With the grace of the Goddess, devotees can easily attain these divine powers. In 2025, Mata Siddhidatri will be worshipped on October 1.

What is the form of Mata Siddhidatri?

Maa Siddhidatri, the granter of siddhis, appears extremely enchanting. She has four hands. In two of her hands, she holds a mace and a discus, symbolizing protection from enemies. In her other two hands, she carries a lotus and a conch, representing prosperity and divine powers. Worshipping her blesses devotees with supreme knowledge.

The Adored Goddess of Lord Shiva

Mata Siddhidatri is also worshipped by Lord Shiva. Scriptures state that by her grace, Lord Shiva attained the Ardhanarishwar form. In her worship, white and red flowers hold great significance. Although there is no special offering prescribed, devotees should follow their family tradition while offering bhog. Among the nine forms of Goddess Durga, Maa Siddhidatri is considered the easiest to please. During her worship, devotees chant her mantras and recite the Durga Saptashati.

Special Worship of Mata Durga on Mahanavami

On Mahanavami, devotees perform the special Shodashopchar puja of Maa Durga. On this day, Maa is worshipped in her Mahishasurmardini form. In some traditions, it is believed that Maa killed Mahishasura on this very day. Many devotees also worship their weapons on Mahanavami. In several places, Mata Siddhidatri is revered as the incarnation of Maa Saraswati, and thus, musical instruments are also worshipped.

Importance of Kanya Pujan

On the ninth day of Navratri, devotees also perform Kanya Pujan. In this ritual, nine young girls are worshipped as manifestations of the Goddess, and their feet are washed with devotion. They are offered kheer, halwa, and different sweets, and gifted with presents. It is believed that when these little girls leave a home happily, they leave behind the everlasting blessings of Maa Durga.
