Sanatan Dharma considers the month of Paush highly auspicious. Many fasts and festivals occur in this month. Paush Putrada Ekadashi, which falls in month of Paush, holds special significance. This sacred date is dedicated to Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi and is considered especially beneficial for attaining children, lineage growth, and family peace and prosperity.
What Is Paush Putrada Ekadashi?
Putrada Ekadashi comes twice a year—first in the month of Sawan and second in the month of Paush. Scriptures say that observing this fast blesses the couple with a worthy, healthy, and long-lived child. Obstacles in the family are removed, and happiness and prosperity enter the home. Devotees observe a fast on this day and worship Lord Vishnu and Goddess Lakshmi with proper rituals. People consider Ekadashi the most beloved date of Lord Vishnu, and the fast of this day is said to destroy all sins.
When Is Paush Putrada Ekadashi?
According to the Panchang, the Ekadashi date of the Shukla Paksha in the month of Paush will begin on 30 December 2025 at 07:50 AM. It will end on 31 December 2025 at 05:00 AM. According to tradition, common people will observe the fast on 30 December, while the Vaishnav tradition will consider this Ekadashi on 31 December. The time to break the fast, called Parana, is also considered very important. Parana will take place on 31 December from 01:29 PM to 03:33 PM. It is considered auspicious to conclude the fast during this period by offering sesame seeds, Panchamrit, Tulsi, and fruits to Lord Vishnu.
Worship Method of Paush Putrada Ekadashi
A devotee who observes the fast should bathe in the morning and take a vow. After this, it is considered auspicious to worship Lord Vishnu with yellow sandalwood, roli, moli, akshat, yellow flowers, seasonal fruits, and sweets. One must perform aarti with incense and lamps and offer a lamp as charity. A couple desiring a child should bathe in the morning, wear yellow clothes, and worship the child form of Lord Krishna. After this, chanting the Santan Gopal Mantra is considered highly beneficial. Throughout the day, one must keep the mind pure by staying away from slander, deceit, dishonesty, anger, and hatred.
Chant This Mantra
Chanting the mantra “Om Namo Bhagavate Vasudevaya” and reciting the Vishnu Sahasranama bestows special merit. The fast completes when one feeds Brahmins on Dwadashi and then eats food oneself.
