What is Sutak Kaal, What to Keep in Mind

Whenever there is talk of a solar or lunar eclipse, naturally the thought of the Sutak Kaal comes to mind. Sutak is not just a tradition, but in ancient Indian knowledge, astrology, and spiritual beliefs, this period is considered a special and important time. It is the period when there are changes in the subtle energy waves of nature, which can be experienced at the mental, physical, and spiritual levels of a person.

Religious Significance of Sutak Kaal

In Sanatan Dharma, the Sutak Kaal is given special importance. According to religious beliefs, the Sutak period begins approximately 9 hours before the eclipse starts and ends with the conclusion of the eclipse. It is considered an inauspicious time, so no auspicious or meaningful work is performed during this period. According to religious beliefs, touching idols of deities, visiting temples, and performing auspicious rituals like marriages or hair tonsure are prohibited during this time.

Will Sutak Kaal be Valid?

The first lunar eclipse of the year in March 2026 will be visible in India, so the Sutak period will also be valid. Sutak will begin 9 hours before the start of the lunar eclipse in 2026. During this period, negative energy spreads in the atmosphere, so one should avoid performing auspicious work.
