2026 Aniruddha Chaturthi
According to the Hindu Panchang, on the Shukla Paksha Chaturthi Tithi of the Ashadha month, devotees observe the Aniruddha Ganesha Vrat and worship Lord Ganesha in His Aniruddha form. Aniruddha is one of the many divine manifestations of Lord Ganesha. During this Vrat, it is customary to donate a Tumbi (a traditional gourd vessel) to ascetics. The significance of the Ashadha Shukla Chaturthi Vrat is described in various Hindu scriptures, where it is primarily dedicated to the worship of Lord Ganesha. The Chaturthi Tithi is regarded in the scriptures as being especially dear to Lord Ganesha. Observing fast and worshiping Him on this day during Madhyahna Kala enhances intelligence, memory, learning and eloquence.
Skanda Purana, Ganesha Purana and Mudgala Purana describe in detail the glory, rituals and merits of Ganesha worship and related observances. According to the Ganesha Purana, the tradition of observing the Chaturthi Vrat originated on the instruction of Lord Brahma and it was first performed by the Devas to remove obstacles. By performing this Vrat, all forms of difficulties, misfortunes and hindrances are dispelled. Observing the Ashadha Shukla Chaturthi Vrat blesses the devotee with the fourfold goals of life, i.e., Dharma, Artha, Kama and Moksha.
Aniruddha Chaturthi Vrat Puja Vidhi
A simple method of fasting on the day of Ashadha Shukla Chaturthi has been described. However, minor variations may exist depending on regional or family traditions.
- After taking bath early in the morning, wear clean and pure clothes and take the Sankalpa or vow to observe the fast.
- In the home shrine or a Ganesha temple, spread a red cloth on a wooden platform and install an idol or image of Lord Ganesha.
- Perform the Shodashopachara Ganesha Pujan, which includes offering Avahana, Asana, Arghya, Padya, Snana, Vastra, Gandha, Pushpa, Dhupa, Dipa, Naivedya, Tambula, Dakshina and Aarti. Offer red flowers and vermilion specifically to Lord Ganesha.
- Offer Durva grass, pure Ghee, Modaka and Laddu as Naivedya to Lord Ganesha.
- After maintaining the fast throughout the day, listen to or recite the Aniruddha Chaturthi Vrat Katha in the evening.
- According to Mudgala Purana, on the Panchami Tithi, conclude all rituals by performing Parana i.e. breaking the fast, in the presence of a Brahmin.
This completes the Ashadha Shukla Chaturthi Vrat Puja Vidhi. Observing this Vrat brings stability and balance to worldly life. It is especially beneficial for those struggling with obstacles, mental unrest or professional challenges. The Vrat also strengthens inner resolve, enhances willpower and promotes spiritual progress. Thus, the Ashadha Shukla Chaturthi Vrat, as prescribed in the scriptures, is a spiritually powerful and auspicious observance that frees devotees from all kinds of difficulties and leads them toward happiness, peace and prosperity.
