Dhanteras Puja Muhurat, Puja Vidhi and Significance
September 17, 2024 Tuesday
Dhanteras is celebrated on the day of Kartik Krishna Trayodashi. This year, the festival of Dhanteras will be celebrated on October 29. It is believed that on this day, Lord Dhanvantari appeared holding a pot of nectar. He is the deity of Ayurveda, and worshiping him brings health. On this day, Lord Kuber is also worshiped, and people seek blessings of wealth and prosperity from him.
Let’s know the auspicious time for worship on Dhanteras:
Auspicious Time for Dhanteras Puja
Dhanteras will start on October 29 at 10:41 AM and will last until October 30. You can perform the worship of Lord Kuber and Mahalaxmi during the Vrishabh Kaal (from 06:47 PM to 08:45 PM). During this time, light a lamp for Lord Kuber in the northeast direction of your home.
Rituals for Dhanteras Puja
- Wake up in the morning and clean your home.
- Take a vow to worship Lord Kuber, Lord Ganesha, and Mother Lakshmi.
- In the evening, set up a platform for worship.
- Place images of Lord Kuber, Mother Lakshmi, and Lord Dhanvantari.
- You can perform the Shodashopachara puja of Mother Lakshmi with the recitation of Shri Sukta.
- Also perform the Shodashopachara puja for Lord Kuber.
- Light a ghee lamp.
How to Worship Lord Kuber and Mahalaxmi
On Dhanteras, first place their pictures or idols. Begin with the worship of Lord Ganesha and pray for the smooth completion of your puja. Include your jewelry and cash in the worship. Generally, during Kuber puja, the main door of the house should be open; however, if you cannot keep it open fully, keep it ajar for some time during the lighting of lamps in the evening.
After worshiping Lord Ganesha, proceed to worship Mother Lakshmi. If you know how to recite Shri Sukta, you can perform her Shodashopachara puja from the first to the last verse. After this, worship Lord Kuber. In Lord Kuber’s worship, do not forget to chant the Panchakshari Shiva mantra. Following that, chant the main Kuber mantra and offer at least 108 oblations.
Importance of Lighting Lamps in Shiva Temples
On Dhanteras, if you donate a ghee lamp in any temple of Lord Shiva, it is believed to bring significant wealth benefits. It is also considered auspicious to feed small children their favorite sweets. Ensure to light at least five and a maximum of 15 lamps in Shiva temples.
