People believe that seeing the Neelkanth bird on Dussehra fulfills all desires. People consider the Neelkanth bird a representative of God. People believe this bird is auspicious because it is a form of Lord Shiva. According to religious beliefs, Lord Rama got rid of the sin of Brahmahatya after seeing Neelkanth on Dussehra, which makes it highly auspicious. Apart from this, the Neelkanth bird plays an important role in environmental balance and agriculture.

What to Do on Dussehra

Worship Lord Rama and Goddess Durga.
Worship during Vijay Muhurat in the afternoon, as Rama killed Ravana at this time.

Establish Durga’s chowki and perform worship in Vijay Muhurat. Offer blue or white Aparajita flowers. Offer incense, lamp, and kheer or sweets as bhog. If possible, recite Aparajita Stotra.
