Importance of Holika Dahan 2026

In ancient times, a demon named Hiranyakashipu had a son named Prahlad. Prahlad was a devotee of Lord Vishnu, while Hiranyakashipu considered himself greater than God. Hiranyakashipu made many attempts to divert Prahlad from the path of devotion to Vishnu, but he did not succeed. Hiranyakashipu, in anger, also tried to kill Prahlad, but he failed in this as well. After this, he called his sister Holika for help. Holika had received a boon from Lord Shiva that fire could not burn her. After this, they made a plan to burn Prahlad by making him sit in Holika’s lap in the fire. Holika sat on the pyre with Prahlad, but by the grace of Lord Vishnu, Holika burned and Prahlad remained completely safe. Since then, people perform Holika Dahan.
