Jaya Parvati Vrat 2025 : Date, Significance, Puja Vidhi and Mantra
July 11, 2025 Friday
According to religious beliefs, Maa Parvati performed intense penance and received Lord Shiva as her husband. Since then, unmarried girls observe Jaya Parvati Vrat to attain a husband like Lord Shiva, and married women perform it for the long life of their spouses. In some regions, this vrat is also known as Gauri Vrat or Vijaya Vrat. This festival is especially celebrated in Gujarat and Maharashtra, where married women and unmarried girls worship Maa Parvati and Lord Shiva. Women observe this vrat to maintain their marital bliss.
Jaya Parvati Vrat is observed for 5 days
Hindus consider Jaya Parvati Vrat as one of the most difficult fasts. Devotees observe it continuously for five days instead of just one or two. This vrat begins every year from the Trayodashi Tithi of Shukla Paksha in the month of Ashadha, and in 2025, Jaya Parvati Vrat will begin on 8 July.
What is the significance of Jaya Parvati Vrat
According to religious beliefs, women who dedicate this vrat to Maa Gauri receive eternal marital bliss. Additionally, if unmarried girls make an elephant from sand and offer five types of fruits, flowers, and prasad, Maa Parvati becomes pleased and grants them a husband of their choice. This vrat follows similar rituals to Gangaur, Hartalika Teej, and Mangala Gauri Vrat.
How to perform Puja during Jaya Parvati Vrat
Devotees must wake up before sunrise on Jaya Parvati Vrat and take a bath. After wearing clean or new clothes, they must take the pledge of the vrat and meditate on Maa Parvati. In the home temple, they must place a wooden platform covered with a red cloth. Then they must install idols of Maa Parvati and Lord Shiva on the platform. They must worship both deities by offering kumkum, shatpatra, kasturi, ashtagandha, and flowers. They must offer seasonal fruits and coconut. Reading the Jaya Parvati Vrat Katha is essential. After performing the aarti, they must join both hands and pray for the boon they wish to receive from Maa Parvati. If they make an elephant from sand, they must perform jagran (night vigil) and immerse it in a river or pond the next morning after bathing.
How to observe the 5-day fast
As mentioned, Jaya Parvati Vrat lasts for five days. During this time, salt is completely forbidden, and consumption of wheat flour and vegetables is also avoided. Devotees must consume fruits, milk, curd, juice, or sweets made from milk. On the last day, they must break the fast by consuming food prepared using salt and wheat flour, such as roti or puri, after temple worship.
