On the same day, devotees will also observe Mangala Gauri Vrat, dedicated to Goddess Parvati. This powerful combination is believed to bestow auspicious results. What is the Original Name of Shravan Month?

Most people know Lord Shiva’s favorite month as Sawan, but its correct name is Shravan. Hindu scriptures refer to this month by its original name, Shravan, which gradually evolved into the more commonly used term “Sawan.” Even though “Sawan” is widely used today, Shravan remains the traditional and accurate name.

Why is This Month Named Shravan?

According to scholars, the word Shravan means “to hear,” emphasizing the importance of listening to stories and glories of Lord Shiva during this sacred time. Astrologers also note that on the full moon (Purnima) of this month, the Moon aligns with the Shravan Nakshatra, giving the month its name.
