Kartik Purnima Vrat Katha
People also call Dev Diwali and Tripurari Purnima. On this day, Lord Shiva killed the demon Tripurasura (Tarakaksha, Kamalaksha, and Vidyunmali), which earned him the name “Tripurari”. This day is highly auspicious for bathing in the Ganga, Deepdan, and performing religious rituals. According to the story, Tripurasura received a boon from Lord Brahma and built three cities (of gold, silver, and iron) to terrorize the Earth. At the request of the gods, Lord Shiva mounted a divine chariot and destroyed the three cities with a single arrow when they aligned in a straight line. That is why this day holds special significance for devotees of Shiva.
