Rath Festival – The Story Behind Rath Yatra

Once in Dwarka, the queens of Lord Krishna requested Mother Rohini to narrate the stories of Krishna’s divine pastimes with the Gopis. Initially, she hesitated but later agreed. She asked Subhadra to guard the door. As Rohini described the divine tales, Subhadra became engrossed in them. At that moment, Lord Krishna and Balram arrived. Subhadra stood between them, stretching out her arms to stop them from entering.

However, Rohini’s powerful narration enchanted them as well. At that point, Sage Narada appeared and saw the siblings standing together like divine idols. He humbly prayed and asked, “Will you all appear like this forever for the world to see?” Lord Krishna granted his wish, and since then, they have permanently resided in the Jagannath Temple in Puri.
