Sankat Mochan Hanuman Mandir: The Monkey Temple

Sankat Mochan Mandir is one of the most sacred Hanuman temples in India. Established by the poet-saint Tulsidas, it is situated near the Assi River. "Sankat Mochan" means "Reliever of Troubles," and thousands flock here every Tuesday and Saturday.

Significance: Tulsidas' Vision

  • The Idol: The idol of Lord Hanuman here faces his Lord Rama, which makes it unique. It is a swayambhu (self-manifested) idol.
