The Legend of Event
In mythology, there was a demon named Jalandhar, who was born from a piece of Lord Shiva. He was incredibly brave and could not be defeated by any deity. His wife, Vrinda, was deeply devoted and had such a powerful influence that no one could conquer Jalandhar. Disturbed by his reign of terror, the gods turned to Lord Vishnu for assistance. Vrinda was a devoted follower of Lord Vishnu.
To defeat Jalandhar, Lord Vishnu took on his form and touched Vrinda, breaking her chastity. This act led to Jalandhar’s demise. After his death, Vrinda also chose to commit Sati but first cursed Lord Vishnu to become a stone and be separated from his wife. Following her Sati, the Tulsi plant emerged in that spot, and Lord Vishnu transformed into stone, becoming known as Shaligram.
Significance of Tulsi Puja
Tulsi Vivah is particularly significant in Sanatan Dharma. This day marks the start of the wedding season in Hinduism. On this day, Lord Vishnu awakens from his four-month-long Yoga Nidra, signaling the end of Chaturmas. According to scriptures, no auspicious activities are conducted during these four months. After the Puja, all kinds of auspicious endeavors can commence.
