Vishnupad Temple: The Footprint of God

Vishnupad Temple is the spiritual heart of Gaya. Built of black basalt stone, it houses a 40-cm long footprint of Lord Vishnu stamped into the rock. It is believed that Lord Vishnu killed the demon Gayasur here by placing his foot on his chest.

Significance: The Moksha Dwaar
- Dharmashila: The footprint is known as Dharmashila. Devotees offer Pind (rice balls) here to salvage the souls of their ancestors.
- Ahilyabai Holkar: The current temple structure was built by Queen Ahilyabai Holkar of Indore in 1787.

- Transport: Located on the banks of the Falgu River, easily accessible by auto from Gaya Junction.
