What is Shapit Dosh? How to Avoid It?

In astrology, the conjunction of certain planets can create various yogas in a birth chart. Some of these yogas are favorable, while others are inauspicious. The negative conjunction of certain planets can lead to various difficulties in life. One such defect is called Shapit Dosha.

What is Shapit Dosh?

Shapit Dosh is formed by the conjunction of Rahu and Shani (Saturn). When Shani and Rahu are in the same house in a birth chart, Shapit Dosh is created. Similarly, if Rahu has an aspect on Shani, it can also lead to Shapit Dosh. The term “Shapit” means a curse. If a person has committed a wrong act in a past life and received a curse or a bad wish from someone, it manifests as Shapit Dosh in this life. This defect can lead to various obstacles in life. Some scholars also believe that a conjunction of Shani and Ketu can create Shapit Dosh in the birth chart. The only way to mitigate the negative effects of Shapit Dosh is to perform remedies and help others as much as possible in this life.

Symptoms of Shapit Dosha

Shapit Dosh, resulting from bad deeds in a past life, significantly affects this life. Some of the negative impacts caused by Shapit Dosh include:

  •  Repeated failures in tasks
  •  Delays in marriage or stress in married life
  •  Legal disputes and enmity
  •  Anxiety and stress
  •  Concerns related to children
  •  Lack of self-confidence
  •  Frequent illnesses in children
  •  Financial losses
  •  Difficulties in education

Remedies for Shapit Dosha

To overcome Shapit Dosh, certain mantras of Shani, Rahu, and Ketu are chanted a specific number of times, followed by special rituals (yajnas). This worship should ideally be performed at specific pilgrimage sites or Jyotirlinga pilgrimage areas. In addition, some simple remedies should also be followed, such as:

  •  Reciting Hanuman Chalisa daily, which helps in relieving the pain and defects of Shani.
  •  Donating to orphans in any orphanage on Saturdays.
  •  Visiting and serving in old age homes every Saturday.
  •  Chanting the Panchakshara Mantra “Namah Shivaya” as many times as possible daily.
  •  Keeping Ganga water at home and bathing with it on the day of your birth nakshatra.
  •  Wearing a 4, 5, or 8-mukhi Rudraksha.
